2004 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2004 growing season started very early in the Spring and included a cool, steady ripening period in the Fall. It ended with a very early harvest of extremely low yields resulting in exceptional fruit concentration. This lovely wine is dark crimson in color with enticing aromas of dusty plums, wild cherries and candied violets. Its flavors are rich with red currants and cherries, hints of cassis, cocoa and nutmeg. Soft, supple tannins and a luscious mouth-feel complement its firm structure and moderate alcohol. With both power and elegance, it promises many years of enjoyment. – Cathy Corison

91 pts – Stephen Tanzer “Bright medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate, licorice and minerals. Rich, chewy and deep; quite fat and full with a chocolaty sweetness. Finishes with lovely ripe, building tannins.”

2005 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2005 Corison Cabernet is classic and refined with great bones. September that year was unseasonably chilly and harvest was a full month later than normal. Time on the vine allowed the development of the full range of flavors that Cabernet can achieve (red and blue fruits grading into the darker, purple and black notes) at moderate alcohol. Cold nights promoted great natural acidity. Inviting aromas jump out of the glass. Cherry pie, complete with allspice, nutmeg and cardamom, dominates the aromas and flavors with hints of plum, cassis, lavender and dark chocolate chiming in. The overall impression is warm and engaging. – Cathy Corison

95 pts – Wine Enthusiast “This wine is so balanced it hits the palate as impeccable and gorgeous. The flavors, of currants, cherries, vanilla and sweet oak, are only part of it. It is so dry, so richly structured in tannins and acids, so pure through the long, spicy finish, that it easily deserves its high score. Will age well for up to a decade.”

2006 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Budbreak came very late in 2006 due to cold, rainy weather that continued well into spring. By early June, the sun finally came out and the vines began to bloom and set fruit. Even, cool weather arrived at last with August (in the nick of time for flavor and color development) and continued through a very late harvest for a nearly perfect ripening season. Effusive aromas of ripe boysenberries, black plums, chocolate and nutmeg spice jump out of the glass. Juicy, mouth-filling flavors of berry jam, cassis and cardamom follow with velvet tannins. Classic. – Cathy Corison

90 pts – Stephen Tanzer “Boysenberry, dark chocolate and violet aromas, with hints of leather and game. Juicy and moderately dense, with sweet dark berry flavors … In an elegant, restrained style. Finishes with firm, dusty tannins and good persistence.”
