CEPA 21 TINTO FINO 07
This is a new project of the Moro family in Ribera del Duero. The vineyards that are used for Cepa 21 were all planted before 1990 and are planted to Tinto Fino, the purest clone of Tempranillo in the region. The clone which is cultivated in all of the plots belonging to Bodegas Cepa 21 is selected from one hundred year old vines in Pesquera de Duero. The soils are clay with limestone and clay with some sedimentary gravel. The vines are oriented to the south and the yields are 1.67t to 2.09 t/acre.
The 2007 Cepa 21 raises the bar slightly. Also 100% Tinto Fino, it exhibits a bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, spice box, and black fruits. On the palate it displays an elegant personality with ample succulent fruit, good depth, and a smooth texture. It will benefit from 1-2 years of cellaring and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2019.
This plush, modern red delivers sweet flavors of blackberry and fig compote with spicy accents of vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood. Round and juicy, with fine tannins and lively acidity. Drink now through 2017.
